Day 1: Southern Nevada

Today was a long and busy day for the bishop candidates and it was a very long day for The Reverend Reporter as well. Since I am so exhausted I can barely see straight I will post just the highlights of the day and promise a lengthier report in the morning.

This first day featured short and informal stops in Boulder City and Bullhead City AZ and a longer question-and-answer session at Christ Church in Las Vegas. At St. Christopher's the candidates spent their time introducing themselves and talking about the ministries their parishes are currently engaged in. Their presentations put flesh on their biographies and gave us a chance to get to know everyone better.

The lunchtime session at Holy Spirit focused more on questions dealing with local ministry issues, training of lay ministers, and how to bring our only out-of-state parish into closer partnership with the rest of the diocese. The question and answer period was filled with thoughtful exchanges that brought into sharp focus the needs of small, local churches in need of care and attention.

The evening session at Christ Church was much more exhaustive and I do have detailed notes of the candidates' responses to a variety of questions. In the interests of clarity and good reporting I shall continue tomorrow after I've had some sleep.

The Reverend Reporter once again urges all Nevada Episcopalians to attend one of these sessions if you can. They are important, informative, and in an odd way, a lot of fun.

More tomorrow...plus photos.

Blessings,
RR+
